I'm Emily, owner of Hairem Scarem, hairdresser of over 25 years, lifelong learner, and someone who believes the best hair starts with genuine care.
Back in 2000, at just 19 years old, I opened the doors to Hairem Scarem in Mollison Street, Bendigo, with little more than a dream, a pair of scissors, and a passion for making people feel good about themselves.
Like many young business owners, I certainly didn't have all the answers.
Over the years, I've made mistakes, learnt lessons, embraced change, and grown through every season of business. Looking back now, I wouldn't change any of it, (well maybe just a couple of things) because every challenge has helped shape the salon, the stylist and the person I am today.
In 2008, Hairem Scarem found its forever home in Harley Street. It wasn't just a change of address, it marked the beginning of a new chapter. One where experience met confidence, and where the salon gradually became known not only for beautiful hair, but for the way people felt when they walked through the door.
For me, hair has never simply been about hair.
It's about people.
Over the past 25 years I've shared in engagements, weddings, pregnancies, career changes, celebrations, heartbreaks and life's unexpected moments. I've watched children grow, welcomed second and even third generations of families into the salon, and built friendships with people who first walked through my doors as clients.
That trust is something I'll never take for granted.
Creating a welcoming, honest and heart-led experience has always mattered more to me than chasing trends. My salon has quietly grown into a place where people feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are knowing they'll be listened to, understood and genuinely cared for.
The trust we build together shapes every consultation, every colour, every haircut and every conversation.
These days, I choose quality over quantity.
I believe in thoughtful consultations, personalised colour, healthy hair, honest advice and good old-fashioned customer service. I want every person who leaves my salon to feel not only beautiful, but seen, heard and valued.
Beyond the salon, I'm passionate about giving back to both my community and my industry. Whether it's raising funds for Dementia Australia, running our annual Christmas Toy Run, or mentoring the next generation of hairdressers through Booked & Busy Salon Consulting, and being an active founding member of the the Bendigo Hair Collective I believe success is measured not only by what we achieve, but by what we give back.
After more than 25 years behind the chair, I'm stepping into this next chapter with gratitude.
Not because everything has been perfect, but because every season has taught me something valuable.
If you've found your way here, thank you.
I hope when you visit Hairem Scarem you'll feel exactly what I've always hoped to create...
A place where you'll find hair you love...
...and care you'll feel.
